The astronomical art clock by Hermann Goertz is without doubt one of the highlights of a visit to the German Watch Museum in Glashütte. With 1,756 individual parts, a total of 20 readable indications, a monumental mahogany case measuring 2.50 metres x 1.50 metres and a construction time of 33 years, the clock is a superlative in every respect.
On the first Thursday of every month at 11.00 a.m., the head of the collections, master watchmaker Jürgen Franke, invites all visitors to the museum to wind up the art clock in public. In addition to a look inside the otherwise closed clock case, visitors can learn a lot of interesting facts about the history and special features of this unique clock. The presentation is in German language.
