The manufacture of marine chronometers began in Glashütte in 1886. These instruments are required for navigation at sea and must not exceed a maximum rate deviation of 0.1 seconds a day.

The marine chronometer numbered 8 888 was manufactured in 1965 by VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe (GUB for short). The company built mechanical marine chronometers up to 1978, and also produced quartz chronometers in parallel to this from 1974.

The German Watch Museum Glashütte owns all GUB’s marine chronometer sales documentation. Archive information can be produced based on this.
In this way, we are able to verify the sale of the marine chronometer 8 888 in 1965.
