Mühle-Glashütte celebrates two anniversaries

A foyer exhibition is currently on display at the German Watch Museum in Glashütte. Once again, a co-operation with a Glashütte watch manufacturer has been established. Mühle-Glashütte is celebrating two anniversaries this year and has taken this as an opportunity to present itself with a small exhibition in the watch museum. Firstly, the 155th anniversary of the first company foundation by Robert Mühle is being celebrated, and secondly, it is exactly 30 years since the Mühle family business was founded in its current form.

The exhibition spans the entire history of the company, which began in 1869 with the founding of the first company for high-precision measuring instruments by Robert Mühle. Later, speedometers, rev counters and car clocks were also added. It was not until the turmoil after the Second World War that the company’s history came to a temporary end. Like many other Glashütte companies, the family business was expropriated and dismantled. However, as early as December 1945, the company was reorganised with a slightly different focus as “Ingenieur Hans Mühle, Feinmechanik Glashütte”. In 1994, Hans-Jürgen Mühle, now in the fourth generation, re-established the company under the name “Mühle-Glashütte GmbH nautische Instrumente und Feinmechanik”. Production initially focussed on marine chronometers and ship’s clocks. A short time later, wristwatches were added to the range, which today dominate production at Mühle. To mark the company’s 30th anniversary, a number of special models were launched, which are currently on display in the watch museum alongside historical Mühle exhibits.
