German Watch Museum Glashütte welcomes the 50,000th visitor
On June 26, only 13 months after the festive opening of the German Watch Museum Glashütte
in Mai 2008, the 50,000th visitor could be greeted.
Ursel Mrosek from Leipzig visited with her husband Norbert the watch town during a short holiday
and was very surprised when she was warmly received by Mr. Michael Kicherer, managing director of the foundation, and Mr. Reinhard Reichel, director of the museum.
In addition to flowers and a book about the town of Glashütte, the guests of honor received
a porcelain gift as well as a voucher for a watchmaking workshop.
First, however, a bottle of champagne was opened to celebrate the occasion.
At this point, the Mroseks revealed the reason of their visit: Mr Mrosek owned an old Glashütte watch that unfortunately did not work anymore.
In the hope to find an appropriate repair workshop, the couple had come to Glashütte and
also the watch museum.
To their great joy, the Mroseks learned that the museum was not only home to a modern exhibition
but housed also the customer service of Glashütte Original that specializes in the repair and restoration of historic Glashütte watches and clocks.
After a guided tour through the exhibition, the guests of honor visited the restoration workshop and could speak personally to Mr Michael Reimann, the head of the workshop, and took a look at various antique watches that were undergoing repair.
The restoration workshop provides watch lovers and enthusiasts with the possibility to have their historic Glashütte wrist and pocket watches but also precision pendulum clocks and marine chronometers repaired and restored.
Finally, Mr and Mrs Mrosek were accompanied to the manufactory Glashütte Original.
Glashütte Original is, together with the town of Glashütte, the co-founder of the museum and had
prepared a reception of a special kind: a watchmaker was already waiting for the couple
and had prepared a range of typical demonstrations and showed the watch lovers from Leipzig various different steps involved in the assembly of a Glashütte masterpiece.
Mr and Mrs Mrosek were also invited to take a seat behind the watchmaker bench and try their own skillfulness while polishing or bluing screws or while screwing in tiny golden balance wheel screws.
