Presentation of the German Watch Museum Glashütte in China:
Saxon Pavilion in Wuhan shows Glashütte watchmaking tradition
and living craftsmanship
Between October 23 – 31, the German Watch Museum Glashütte will participate in the event
“Germany and China – together in motion”, which takes place in the city of Wuhan (Province Hubei).
The series of events is covering several Chinese cities and is supported by the President of
the Federal Republic of Germany, Horst Köhler, and the Chinese President of State, Hu Jintao
as well as the German Foreign Office.
Under the motto “Engineering Art from Saxony”, the Saxon Pavilion will show selected highlights from the fields of architecture, engineering, art, and craftsmanship.
The foundation “German Watch Museum Glashütte – Nicolas G. Hayek” will present a small exhibition that will display the tradition of mechanical watchmaking in Glashütte since 1845 and demonstrate
the impressive precision of the craft.
The manufactory Glashütte Original, founder of the German Watch Museum Glashütte, supports
the event with a watchmaker who will be present throughout the exhibition. The young watchmaker will give live demonstrations of her skills and provide visitors with fascinating insights into the world of mechanical timekeeping and the German art of watchmaking.
Background Information:
„Germany and China – together in motion“ is a series of events organized by the Federal Republic of Germany with the objective to promote mutual understanding and successful co-operation and to strengthen the image of Germany as a future-oriented country of innovation. Supporter and financing body is the German Foreign Office.
Between autumn 2007 and spring 2010, the event series takes place in important regional centers of China. The final highlight will be the world exhibition in Shanghai in 2010. At each stop, lasting for several months, a German-Chinese promenade takes place, which is the heart of the event.
Special pavilions, dedicated to the individual Federal States, showcase German innovative products and technologies and allow interested visitors to discover for themselves German science, education, culture, and art.
