Welcome Speeches of Mr. Dreßler and Mr. Reichel
15.06.2008
Open Day on 14th June
After its official opening on 22nd May 2008, the German Watch Museum Glashütte provided the town’s inhabitants with the opportunity on 14th June to explore "their" new museum and to experience for themselves the history of their famous home town.
The museum director Reinhard Reichel and his team counted exactly 1,241 guests. Quite a number of the residents of Glashütte were visibly moved when inspecting the various display cases and glass cabinets which document times in the history of Glashütte, some of which they themselves experienced as children.
Within the framework of a town festival, which was organized by the Trade Association of the town, the museum was open free of charge on this day for all residents of Glashütte. On the square in front of the museum, live music, cake, sausage and beverage stands as well as a bouncing castle and painting for children created a cheerful summer atmosphere.
The Lord Mayor of Glashütte, Markus Dressler, and the director of the Watch Museum, Reinhard Reichel, speaking from a stage, gave a cordial welcome to all the citizens of Glashütte and expressed the wish that all visitors would find something to interest them in the new museum. Both speakers thanked all those who gave their support in the creation of this modern museum.
Only the close cooperation between the town of Glashütte and the Glashütte Original watchmaking factory in the form of a joint foundation enabled the creation of a Watch Museum which documents the colourful history of the town and preserves the cultural heritage of Glashütte.
