MEASURING THE MOMENT: How Precise Time Came to Glashütte
By Prof. Dr. Herbert Dittrich

The first in a series of publications by the German Watch Museum in Glashütte, this entertaining book written by Herbert Dittrich provides detailed information about the exhibition and answers questions which may occur to the visitor only after taking a tour of the museum.

This accompanying book is intended for all those who wish to deepen their knowledge about what they have seen and who would like to learn more about the development of the former mining town into a centre of the art of German watchmaking, the founders of the first watch manufactories, and the different possibilities with regard to the measurement of time.

It describes the tradition of the art of watchmaking in Glashütte – which goes back more than 160 years – and illuminates the question of where Glashütte obtained the exact time and how this was preserved and passed on.

In addition, a glossary at the end of the book contains definitions, numerous illustrations and explanations of the most important terms concerned with time measurement.
